glbtq youth suicide prevention

Did you know suicide is the NUMBER ONE cause of death for GLBTQ youth? Did you know that 50% of GLBTQ youth have attempted suicide at least ONCE in their lifetime? Did you know that every 5 HOURS a GLBTQ youth successfully ends his or her life due to loss of hope, isolation, and/or fear?

If these facts haunt you as much as they haunt us, we would like to ask each of you to help us end this epidemic.

We are pleased to invite each of you to a very special training hosted by Youth First Texas, PRIDE Institute, and the Jason Foundation. On Wednesday, November 12, from 7-9pm, we will be hosting a suicide intervention training for staff, board, volunteers, and youth of our fine organization. Provided by the Jason Foundation, Inc, we will learn how to identify the signs of suicidal ideation, how to spot “at-risk” behavior, and how to help someone in a crisis situation.

If I have peaked your interest, here is more information:

The Jason Foundation, Inc. (JFI) is a nationally recognized provider of educational curriculums and training programs for students, educators/youth workers and parents. JFI’s programs build an awareness of the national health problem of youth suicide, educate participants in recognizing the “warning signs or signs of concern”, provide information on identifying at-risk behavior and elevated risk groups, and direct participants to local resources to deal with possible suicidal ideation. JFI’s student curriculums are presented in the “third-person” perspective – how to help a friend.

I hope to see many of you at YFT for this exclusive training. And, yes, this training CAN earn you CPU and LPCi credits!

If any questions about this training should arise, please do not hesitate to contact Judith Dumont: judithd@youthfirsttexas.org
