Soulful. Sinful. Sensual. Seductive: These are the exact electrical vibes that were perceived at Youth First Texas’s first annual Give em’ Heel Fashion Show. On August 8th, the youth from Youth First Texas along with the aid of volunteers had a dashing display of prizes, finger foods, drinks, models, performers and, above all, original clothing lines designed by a few of our youth.
The fashion show benefit was fantastic! Walking in, the first thing to be seen were the glamorous heels for auction, designed by Johnny De Leon, Laquilla Beans and JR LaRue, Victor Rodriquez, and Hai Duong. Across the room there was a generous great spread of treats
provided by Hunky’s.
Guests quenched their thirst at the Mocktail Bar, where Red Bull infused, non-alcoholic beverages where served, including the YFTini, the Cham Wow!, the Sour Wing Tini, and the Colalicious. (My personal favorite that night was the Sour Wing Tini–it had a nice “kick!”) There was also a tarot card reader, Morgan, who intuitively gave fortunes to the curious crowd. (Her mystical skill wasn’t the only thing she had good going for her. Wink. Wink!)
As the suspension grew, the models and designers prepared for their moment of glory. After a few test trials with the lights, everyone began to take there seats. The guests quickly got their last minute drinks and took their spots.
Holy Glamour, Batman! Let me tell you what a great experience it was seeing the first performer (Maliyah) come out. She looked beautiful and red hot with that burning dress of hers. Her dancing was definitely one I will not forget. Next up was Wajids Aldomour’s, 16, clothing line. Her influences draw upon the Baroque era with a flash of the electro-pop 80s. Then came out Fierce dancer and extraordinaire Alexandria O’ Bannon, another who took over the stage with her sizzling moves. Up next was the second design team of the night: Michelle and Zach’s Clothing line “One of those Kids.” This line was classy yet sassy, all in its own way. The third drag performance of the night was none other than Jessica Jade! Her boots were definitely made for walking, and we cannot believe how great she was at handling them. Finally, the show ended with another great looking line, “Eco Trash,” by Victor Rodriguez. His line was blazing, raunchy, edgy, and sensational.
The night ended with great humor and amazing gifts and one interesting auction. A major shout-out to all of our sponsors, including Speedzone, iTunes, Macy’s, Best Buy, Dr. Peay’s Booty Camp, and Hunky’s. All in all, we raised $750 for YFT’s programming efforts for Fall 2009.
Above all, however, the night ended with PRIDE–a deeper significance of unity and the knowledge that anything is possible if only you just take the time to gather and create.
