Leadership Development

Leadership is a major priority of Youth First Texas. We find it extremely important that youth become strong leaders throughout the community, but first and foremost within themselves. We have three main programs that encourage developing leadership abilities:

Youth Board:
The Youth First Texas Youth Board is comprised of 10-14 youth, elected for a one year term to set the direction and leadership guidance for all the youth programs and special event activities for the coming year. They spend much of their time working together with the Executive Board to develop programs and activities to support GLBTQ youth in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Youth Board makes decisions on youth programming, outreach projects, fundraising ventures for youth programs, as well as starting new youth programs. Each of the youth is required to be responsible for a current program of YFT. Program applications may be submitted at any time.

Ambassadors:
Youth throughout the organization who wish to apply their presentation, leadership, and communication skills have the opportunity to go through the Ambassador program. Those selected are taken to conferences and conventions where they will see how other organizations and government groups deal with GLBTQ-related issues, and will also represent Youth First Texas as well as Dallas, Texas at these events.

iLead:
The iLead program is an internship program that offers internships to the youth on a quarterly basis. Youth need to apply to be eligible for this. Interns come up with specific areas on how they want to help YFT and present them to the selection committee. Interns then spend the following ten weeks supporting Youth First in various ways, whether it is administrative needs, marketing assistance, or helping through media
